June 30th, 2008 ~ Trackback

It was almost a year ago I started reading about red5. I came across a couple posts discussing the benefits of using an open source FMS. It wasn’t until March of ‘08 that I was contracted by an interactive firm to build a complex communication tool for one their commercial projects, and so began my research into red5 and we eventually decided to use red5 as our environment for this project. I can’t go into all the details of this project, it will launch in September 2008.

As I began to research and build out this project I realized very quickly that there was a lot to learn, and I found very little help online. I was lucky enough to meet with some of the red5 developers and discuss my project with Trevor Burton at FITC Toronto. Since then we have had many hurtles to overcome, and we are still learning more about red5 every day.

I decided to launch this site for 2 reasons. The first, was the success of PV3world.com. An experimental papervision site operated by my technical director, Geoff Palin, at BackSpaceStudios.com. Secondly, we feel there should be a community that offers support, collaboration, and experimentation for those just learning about red5 and seasoned red5 developers.

The Goal:
red5world.com is an experimental testing ground, tutorial knowledge base and resource center for red5 technology. The main objective of red5world.com is to serve as a open platform for contribution, development, sharing of red5 open source code, knowledge and project assets, and open discussion. It is our hope that red5 developers new and old will help push this technology further. We engage developers, designers, and programmers to contribute tutorials, assets, and discuss whats new in the red5 world.

Welcome and enjoy!
